New Jersey Institute of Technology was founded in 1881 as Newark Technical School; it opened in 1885 with 88 students. NJIT is built on a 45-acre campus. New Jersey Institute of technology offers a number of services such as nonremedial tutoring, women’s center, placement service, health service and health insurance. Very recently, NJIT added 220000 sq. ft of education and research space that has been newly renovated. Library

Out of the total students, more than 2000 students reside on-campus. NJIT has five halls dedicated for the purpose of on-campus accommodation which are the Redwood Hall, Cypress Hall, Oak Hall, the Laurel Hall and the Warren Street Village. Students can look for off- campus housing services in the nearby areas including Harrison, Kearny, Fairmount and East Orange.
